The ThreatThe DefenseThe Survival Outcome

The Threat

Wildfire doesn't arrive as a wall of flame. It arrives as embers.

90%
of homes lost in wildfires ignite from wind-blown embers — not the fire front

Embers travel miles ahead of a fire, driven into attic vents, soffits, decks, and any gap in a building's envelope. A home can ignite long before flames are visible — and long after the fire has passed.

That's the problem BlazeGuard is built to address: not fighting the fire front, but denying embers the dry fuel they need. A custom-engineered wet envelope and defensible space, ready before conditions turn.

Ember-ignition estimate: Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). IBHS also finds that hardening a home to its Wildfire Prepared Home standard, combined with defensible space, can substantially improve a home's odds of surviving a wildfire.

The Platform

Not a sprinkler. An engineered wildfire defense platform.

Every property has its own wildfire DNA. BlazeGuard is designed as a seasonal, portable, concierge platform — engineered for one property at a time, powered by a Site Intelligence Engine.

Concept — the BlazeGuard Mobile Defense Unit, powered by the SkyIntelligence.AI Site Intelligence Engine. In development.

Site Intelligence

SkyIntelligence.AI evaluates parcel, terrain, roof geometry, vegetation, slope, winds, and water sources to design a defense specific to your property — never a catalog part.

The Wet Envelope

A custom-designed envelope of moisture and defensible space intended to deny embers the dry fuel they need — drawing from on-site or pre-cleared water rather than burdening municipal supply.

Concierge & Seasonal

Engineered, stored off-site, maintained, and intended to deploy when conditions warrant — then restored to standby when the threat passes. Guided by trained personnel and the fire service.

The Concierge Model

Protection, handled for you — and designed to offset its own cost.

You don't store it, maintain it, or manage it. We do — so your defense is ready the moment it's needed, and can work for you even when it isn't.

Concept — units stored, maintained, and staged off-site for rapid deployment. In development.

Stored & Managed Off-Site

Your system is engineered, tested, maintained, and kept in our secure facility year-round — no equipment sitting on your property, and nothing for you to service.

Deployed When It Matters

When conditions warrant, we deliver and deploy to your property to help establish a defensive wet envelope — then recover and return it to standby once the threat passes.

Designed to Offset Cost

When your unit isn't needed on your property, we're developing the option to make it available to a community mutual-aid pool — a potential revenue source to help offset costs, alongside potential insurance discounts.

Mutual-aid participation and insurance savings depend on local fire authorities and individual insurers; they are opportunities we are actively developing, not guarantees.

Where We Are Today

Let us tell you plainly where this stands.

Wildfire is a life-safety subject. So we're being transparent about exactly what BlazeGuard is — and isn't — right now.

This season's conditions have forced us to move faster than we planned. BlazeGuard has accelerated out of engineering and into active build — we are now designing and constructing our first systems, engineered property by property, alongside engineers, firefighters, and community stakeholders here in Aspen.

Because these are first-of-their-kind, custom builds, we're delivering them transparently on a cost-plus basis to a limited group of founding properties — not selling a finished, mass-produced product. This is real progress, not mass rollout: every system is engineered, built, and validated one property at a time. Nothing here is a guarantee of protection, and nothing replaces evacuation orders or the direction of your fire authority.

  • Accelerated from engineering into active system build this season
  • First systems are being designed and built now — engineered per property
  • Delivered transparently on a cost-plus basis to founding properties
  • Joining here expresses interest; pricing and delivery follow a property assessment

Registering here provides no wildfire protection and confers no protective capability. Nothing on this site replaces evacuation orders, the guidance of public safety officials, or the work of your local fire authorities. In an emergency, follow official direction and call 911.

Respect for the Fire Service

Built to complement public safety — never to replace it.

BlazeGuard is being developed with deep respect for the expertise of the fire service. Its purpose is to support the people and agencies who protect this community — through engineering, preparedness, and collaboration — not to substitute for them.

Operational concepts will continue to evolve in consultation with appropriate authorities and within applicable emergency management frameworks. As the initiative matures, any statements of support from community leaders will appear here in their own words, with their permission.

Community Support

BlazeGuard is being developed in consultation with the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control (DFPC) and with the support of local Authorities Having Jurisdiction across our service area. We hold letters of support from many, if not all, of these authorities. Out of respect for them, we do not publish their names here — letters are available upon request to qualified parties.

Who's Behind It

Started by someone who answers the call.

Patrick Dial, Founder

Patrick Dial is an Aspen-based entrepreneur, volunteer firefighter with the Aspen Fire Protection District, and founder of the Wildland Fire Protection Project, including the Aspen Valley Aerial Fire & Rescue Force (AVAFF), SkyIntelligence.AI, BlazeGuard, and Guardians of the Land.

BlazeGuard grew from a simple conviction: a community like this one shouldn't have to wait for the next fire to learn how prepared it is. The initiative brings together engineering, operational readiness, and genuine partnership with the fire service to help make Aspen progressively more defensible — one property at a time.

It's being built in the open, with humility about what's known and what still has to be proven in the field.

Questions

Straight answers.

Am I protected if I sign up?

No — and we want to be direct about that. Joining provides no wildfire protection. BlazeGuard is in prototype development and no systems are installed. In a wildfire emergency, follow local fire officials and evacuation orders, and call 911.

How much does it cost?

Because every property is unique, there are no standardized packages, and there's nothing to purchase today. As prototype systems develop, pricing will reflect each property's characteristics — distance from water, elevation, structure size, and the defensible space required. A preliminary Site Intelligence review is the honest starting point.

What actually happens when I join?

You'll receive occasional updates on the initiative's progress, pilot opportunities, and preparedness resources. If you share your property details, we'll begin a preliminary review using publicly available information and what you've told us — so any future conversation starts from real understanding of your site. We never sell or share your information.

Is this affiliated with the fire department?

BlazeGuard is a private initiative developed with respect for, and input from, the fire service — but it is not a government agency and does not speak for one. It's designed to complement public safety, never replace it. Any statements of support from community leaders will appear here in their own words, with their permission.

Where does the water come from?

The concept is designed around approved on-site or pre-cleared sources — rivers, pools, ponds, dedicated tanks, or approved drafting locations — and tender support, rather than relying on municipal supply during an emergency. Systems would be engineered to operate within local fire authority frameworks.
